Balcony Railing Safety
In light of the recent tragedy involving Jennifer Rosoff, the 35-year-old woman that fell when her balcony railing collapsed, we would like to reiterate the importance of performing routine balcony railing inspections. As stated in our interview with the NBC News I-Team, railing penetrations can quickly deteriorate due to the effects of harsh weather.
Building residents with balconies should visually inspect balcony railings for rust accumulation and steel deterioration, particularly at connections, and, at the locations where the railing penetrates the balcony deck and building wall. Residents should immediately notify the building superintendent, management or a qualified professional of any concerns regarding the integrity of a railing.
